Chandigarh: Two months after a migrant worker from West Bengal was allegedly beaten to death in Haryana over suspicions of having eaten beef, police announced on Saturday that laboratory tests revealed the meat was not beef. Ten individuals have been arrested in connection with the murder of Sabir Malik, a ragpicker residing in a shanty in Hansawas Khurd village, Charkhi Dadri district.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Bharat Bhushan stated that the meat sample taken from Malik's residence was sent to a laboratory in Faridabad for analysis, and the report confirmed it was not beef. "We will soon submit the challan to the court along with the report," he added.
On August 27, the accused allegedly summoned Malik to a shop under the guise of selling empty plastic bottles, where they assaulted him. When bystanders attempted to intervene, the attackers reportedly moved him to another location and continued the beating, according to police reports. A case has been filed against the suspects under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
